Regalia for Grand Chapter Officers Past and Present (Excluding Grand Mark Regalia)

APRONS, SASHES AND ROBES

APRONS:no_image

To be of white lambskin 400 mm wide and 355 mm long with a pointed flap 162 mm at the point.  The border along the sides and on the bottom of the apron to be of indented ribbon of the usual Royal Arch pattern (being crimson diamonds on a purple background) 100 mm wide.  The border of the flap to be of indented ribbon of the usual Royal Arch pattern 50 mm wide with purple points to the centre.  Gold lace 15 mm wide to be on the inside and outside edge of the borders of both apron and flap.  There will be a gold fringe around the outer edge of the apron and flap between 35 mm and 50 mm in length.  The binding at the top of the apron shall be crimson ribbon 38 mm wide.  Two gold tassels, suspended from crimson ribbon 50 mm to come from underneath the flap.  In the centre of the flap there shall be an equilateral triangle, and within the triangle the triple tau, all in gold, placed on a crimson background.  In the centre of the apron shall be a Grand Officer’s apron emblem being a gold circle with an outer diameter of 70 mm and an inner diameter of 45 mm, within the outer edge of the circle a gold equilateral triangle 5 mm to 7 mm wide and within the outer edge of the triangle a white enamel keystone, the last two on a circular crimson background within the inner edge of the circle.  On the circle the words “UNITED SUPREME GRAND CHAPTER – N.S.W. For Grand Stewards the apron shall not have any gold lace or any gold fringe on any part of the apron. Grand Stewards aprons shall be and at all times remain the property of the United Supreme Grand Chapter. ALTERNATELY an apron with gold fringe conforming with these Patterns of Regalia may be worn provided the same is purchased by the Companion and such will remain the personal property of the Companion.[PLATE GC2]

For Grand Chapter Officers and Past Grand Chapter Officers who are not Past Principals the binding at the top of the apron, the ribbon suspending the gold tassels and the background of the equilateral triangle on the central flap of the apron shall be white instead of crimson.  [PLATE GC2A]

The sash of the First Grand Principal and Grand Master and the Pro-First Grand Principal and Grand Master shall be tri-coloured from within light blue, crimson and purple 100 mm wide and with gold lace 16 mm wide running along the centre.  At the lower end of the sash shall be a triple tau within an equilateral triangle, both in gold, on a crimson background below which shall be a gold fringe 75 mm long.  [PLATE GC5]

 

The sash of the a Past First Grand Principal and Grand Master and a Past Pro-First Grand Principal and Grand Master who shall have served in either or those offices shall be the same as that for the First Grand Principal and Grand Master.  The sash for the conferred rank of Past First Grand Principal and Grand Master shall be the same as that for the First Grand Principal and Grand Master but without gold lace running along the centre of the sash. The sash of the Deputy First Grand Principal and Deputy Grand Master shall be 920 mm in length worn over the left shoulder and passing obliquely to the right side.  It shall be of the same pattern, colour and width as the border of the apron with gold lace 16 mm wide running along the centre and along both edges.  At the lower end of the sash shall be a triple tau within an equilateral triangle, both in gold, on a crimson background below which shall be a gold fringe 75 mm long. All Grand Chapter sashes (with the exception of those provided for Grand Stewards) are personal property.  Sashes provided for Grand Stewards sashes shall be and at all times remain the property of the United Supreme Grand Chapter.


ROBES OF OFFICE:no_image

The Grand Principals shall wear robes of office which shall be the property of the United Supreme Grand Chapter.

For the First Grand Principal and Grand Master and Pro-First Grand Principal and Grand Master the robe shall be of crimson colour trimmed with ermine around the collar and down the border of the robe and also on the cuffs of the sleeves.  On the shoulders shall be small rings or studs, one on each shoulder, for attaching the chain of office.  [PLATE GC7]

For the Deputy First Grand Principal and Deputy Grand Master the robe shall be of crimson colour trimmed with ermine around the collar and down the border of the robe.  The cuffs of the sleeves shall be trimmed in crimson silk.  On the shoulders shall be small rings or studs, one on each shoulder, for attaching the chain of office.  [PLATE GC8]

For the Second Grand Principal and the Third Grand Principal the robes shall be of the same design as for the First Grand Principal and Grand Master, save that for the Second Grand Principal the robe shall be of purple colour [PLATE GC9] and for the Third Grand Principal it shall be sky blue colour [PLATE GC10].  On the shoulders shall be small rings or studs, one on each shoulder, for attaching the chain of office.

 


CHAINS AND COLLARS OF OFFICE

CHAINS
The First Grand Principal and Grand Master, a Past First Grand Principal and Grand Master, the Pro-First Grand Principal and Grand Master, a Past Pro-First Grand Principal and Grand Master, the Deputy First Grand Principal and Deputy Grand Master, a Past Deputy First Grand Principal and Deputy Grand Master, Assistant Grand Principals, the Second Grand Principal, the Third Grand Principal and the Grand Director of Ceremonies shall each wear a chain of office.  The chains of office of Assistant Grand Principals, the Second Grand Principal, the Third Grand Principal and the Grand Director of Ceremonies shall be and at all times remain the property of the United Supreme Grand Chapter:  all other chains of office are the personal property of the holders of those ranks.


FIRST GRAND PRINCIPAL AND GRAND MASTER’S / DEPUTY FIRST GRAND PRINCIPAL AND DEPUTY GRAND MASTER’S CHAIN OF OFFICE:
The chain of office for the First Grand Principal and Grand Master, a Past First Grand Principal and Grand Master, Pro-First Grand Principal and Grand Master, Past Pro-First Grand Principal and Grand Master, Deputy First Grand Principal and Deputy Grand Master, Past Deputy First Grand Principal and Deputy Grand Master, shall be backed by tri-coloured ribbon, from within light blue, crimson and purple 50 mm wide, and to be constructed of gold links of the following design and joined in the sequence indicated:

  1. The central link of the chain at the front shall be a triple tau within an equilateral triangle surrounded by a laurel wreath; joined on each side to:

The chain of office for Assistant Grand Principals, the Second Grand Principal, the Third Grand Principal and the Grand Director of Ceremonies shall be backed by tri-coloured ribbon, from within light blue, crimson and purple 50 mm wide, and to be constructed of gold links of the following design and joined in the sequence indicated:

Past Second Grand Principals, Past Third Grand Principals and Past Grand Directors of Ceremonies do not wear a chain of office. There is no rank of ‘Past Assistant Grand Principal’.


COLLAR
To be of tri-coloured ribbon, from within light blue, crimson and purple, 100 mm wide with a gold cord and beehive in centre front, from which shall be suspended the appropriate Jewel of Office for those Grand Chapter Officers not entitled to wear a chain of office. [PLATE GC13]

Past Grand Chapter Officers not entitled to a Chain of Office shall wear a Grand Chapter collar of office with the addition of gold lace 16mm wide running around the centre of the collar. [PLATE GC13A]

All Grand Chapter collars of office (with the exception of those provided for Grand Stewards) are personal property. Collars of office provided for Grand Stewards shall be and at all times remain the property of the United Supreme Grand Chapter.


JEWEL OF OFFICE

GRAND PRINCIPALS AND PAST GRAND PRINCIPALS:

The jewel of office for each of the Grand Principals and Past Grand Principals shall be three interlaced equilateral triangles pendant from a pair of extended compasses all in gold and mounted within shall be the appropriate emblem of office in gold as set out hereunder:

There is no rank of, and therefore no jewel of office for a, ‘Past Assistant Grand Principal’.

The jewel of office for all other Grand Chapter Officers shall be the same as the apron centre emblem in gold, but without the keystone instead in its place within the equilateral triangle the appropriate emblem of office in gold as set out hereunder:

COLLARETTE JEWELS

Irrespective of the number of collarette jewels a Companion may be entitled to wear only the most senior ranking collarette jewel may be worn.

The collarette jewel for each of the Grand Principals (with the exception of the Deputy First Grand Principal and Deputy Grand Master) shall be suspended from a gold chain and shall be a gold, hollow oval of appropriately coloured enamel on which shall be written in gold “UNITED SUPREME GRAND CHAPTER * N.S.W. & A.C.T. *” and within which shall be the appropriate emblem of office as set out hereunder:

All collarette jewels and chains (with the exception of those provided for the First Grand Principal and Grand Master, the Pro-First Grand Principal and Grand Master, the Deputy First Grand Principal and Deputy Grand Master, the Second Grand Principal and the Third Grand Principal) are personal property.  Collarette jewels provided for the First Grand Principal and Grand Master, the Pro-First Grand Principal and Grand Master, the Deputy First Grand Principal and Deputy Grand Master, the Second Grand Principal and the Third Grand Principal shall be and at all times remain the property of the United Supreme Grand Chapter.

There is no collarette jewel for an Assistant Grand Principal.


FIRST GRAND PRINCIPAL AND GRAND MASTER’S COLLARETTE JEWEL (FORMER PATTERN):no_image

The First Grand Principal and Grand Master, the Pro-First Grand Principal and Grand Master, Past First Grand Principals who have served the United Supreme Grand Chapter in that office and Past Pro-First Grand Principals who have served the United Supreme Grand Chapter in that office may wear a collarette jewel of special design suspended from a gold chain.  Both the collarette jewel and chain are personal property. SUPREME COMMITTEE JEWEL:no_image

All current members of Supreme Committee shall wear the jewel which shall be of a circular shape 46 mm in diameter with a flat base in gold.  On the obverse within a circle on a light blue background 35 mm in diameter the emblem of the Order above which is a radiated Ark of the Covenant all in gold.  Below the emblem on a saltire purple ribbon is the Motto of the Order “AD MAJOREM DEI GLORIAM” all in gold.  In the outer circle is the name of the Order in gold on a crimson background 11 mm wide.  The jewel shall be suspended from a tri-coloured collarette ribbon from within light blue, crimson and purple 25 mm wide.  The jewel and collarette ribbon shall be and at all times remain the property of the United Supreme Grand Chapter. The jewel shall be of a circular shape 46 mm in diameter with a flat base in gold.  On the obverse within a circle on a semi-dark green background 35 mm in diameter an equilateral triangle in white edged in gold, in the centre of which a flaming torch in white edged and trimmed in gold.  On each side of the outer edge of the triangle are the words “Grand Chapter Lecturer” in gold.  The jewel shall be suspended from a dark green collarette ribbon 25 mm wide.  The jewel and the collarette ribbon shall be and at all times remain the property of the United Supreme Grand Chapter.  [PLATE GC53]

REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UNITED SUPREME GRAND CHAPTER NEAR OTHER GRAND BODIES:no_image

The jewel shall be the same as for Grand Chaplains.  The jewel shall be suspended from an indented crimson and blue (crimson points towards the centre) collarette ribbon 29 mm wide.  The jewel and the collarette ribbon shall be and at all times remain the property of the United Supreme Grand Chapter.  [PLATE GC55]

Representatives of other Grand Bodies who have been issued with a breast or collar jewel by their respective Grand Body may wear such jewel with Grand Chapter Regalia.


MARK AND ROYAL ARCH DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD:no_image

The jewel shall be circular 40 mm in diameter of gold.  On the obverse shall be a concentric circle made of a laurel wreath which is tied with two saltire ribbons at the bottom.  An equilateral triangle is in the centre of the circle and within the triangle are the Arms of the Order.  Over the top of the triangle is a saltire ribbon on which is the Motto of the Order “AD MAJOREM DEI GLORIAM”.  In the centre of the ribbon an open Bible with the square and compasses lying upon it.  Over the top of the Bible is a Crown.  Within the centre of the two saltire ribbons at the bottom is the triple tau, and written on them the words “SERVICE AWARD” and above these is another saltire ribbon on which is written the word “DISTINGUISHED”.

On the reverse is engraved or stamped the name of the recipient and the date of the award.  The jewel is suspended from a dark crimson collarette ribbon 25 mm wide. The jewel and the collarette ribbon are personal property.  [PLATE GC56]


CHAPTER CYRUS 2013 MEMBERSHIP JEWEL (worn as a collarette jewel):no_image

All current and past members of Chapter Cyrus 2013 shall wear the jewel which shall be oval in shape 60 mm in length and 45 mm in width in gold.  On the obverse within a red border 2 mm in width shall be in relief a representation in black and white of the mosaic pavement bounded in gold  on three sides by a low stone wall at the far end of which is a Royal Arch altar inscribed with the initials on three lines “SKI / HKT / HAB” supporting a Volume of the Sacred Law on which is placed the Square and Compasses.  At the front of the stone walls the facing blocks are finished with, in dexter, the Seal of Solomon in the centre of which is a triple tau whilst on the other, in sinister, is a pentagram with a point at its centre.  Supported by the two facing blocks are two Corinthian columns (including entablature), one on either side, which in turn support blocks of stone forming an arch bearing in turn the following signs of the zodiac and designs (from dexter to sinister): Capricorn (a goat), Aquarius (a water bearer), Pisces (two fish), Aires (a ram standing), Taurus (a bull), Gemini (a pair of twins), a Keystone bearing the inscription within a circle “HTWSSTKS”, Cancer (a crab), Leo (a lion passant), Virgo (a maiden reclining), Libra (a pair of scales), Scorpio (a scorpion), and Sagittarius (an archer kneeling).  Under the arch and between the columns is a red triple tau within an open red equilateral triangle (point upwards) which is in turn within a red circle.  At the base of the jewel and below the above design shall be the emblems of the three series of Degrees worked by Chapter Cyrus 2013, namely (from dexter to sinister) Royal Ark Mariner, Cryptic and Red Cross Knights.  Within the red border at the top shall be the words “CHAPTER CYRUS 2013” in gold.  At the base of the jewel underneath the outer border shall be on a gold scroll with the words “FOUNDATION MEMBER” in re for those Companions entitled to the same.  The jewel shall be suspended from a dark blue ribbon edged maroon 25 mm wide.  The jewel and collarette ribbon are personal property (the recipient’s name is usually inscribed on the reverse).  [PLATE GC56A]


BREAST JEWELS

SUPREME COMMITTEE LONG SERVICE JEWEL:no_image

Any Member of Supreme Committee who has served as a Member of Supreme Committee for a term of not less than 9 years may, on ceasing to serve on Supreme Committee, retain the Supreme Committee jewel as his personal property (the collarette ribbon is to be returned to the United Supreme Grand Chapter) and the jewel shall then be worn from the left breast pendent from a tri-coloured ribbon from within light blue, crimson and purple 38 mm wide.  The jewel is personal property.  [PLATE GC57]


 

EGYPTIAN ROOM JEWEL:no_image

Members of the District Grand Chapter of New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory (Scottish Constitution) who prior to 1980 had contributed towards the fund for the restoration of the Egyptian Room at Petersham and who had been issued with a breast jewel to acknowledge their contribution may continue to wear such jewel.  The jewel is personal property.  [PLATE GC58]


UNITED SUPREME GRAND CHAPTER’S FOUNDATION MEMBER’S JEWEL:no_image

Companions who on 18 October 1980 were members of a Chapter holding under the United Supreme Grand Chapter and who had obtained a Foundation Member’s jewel may continue to wear such jewel.   The jewel is personal property.  [PLATE GC59]


MARK AND ROYAL ARCH ORDER OF MERIT AWARD:no_image

The jewel shall be circular 40 mm in diameter of silver.  On the obverse shall be an Arch on a tessellated pavement, a radiant eye and an Altar in the centre of the pavement.  Over the top of the Arch is a saltire ribbon on which is the Motto of the Order “AD MAJOREM DEI GLORIAM”.  In the centre of the ribbon an open Bible with the square and compasses lying upon it.  Around the Arch are four jewels of the Order, on the left being “E.M. and R.A.M” and on the right “CRYPTIC and R.C.K.”.  On the outside is a concentric circle within which are the words “UNITED SUPREME GRAND CHAPTER”.  On the top and bottom of the circle are four saltire ribbons on which are the words “ROYAL ARCH” in the top and “ORDER OF MERIT” in the bottom.  Between the top ribbon is a crown and between the bottom ribbon is a circle superimposed on which is an equilateral triangle and within the triangle is the triple tau.  On the reverse is engraved or stamped a sequential number (e.g. 10), the name of the recipient and the date of the award.  The jewel is worn from the left breast pendent from a dark crimson ribbon 38 mm wide.  The jewel is personal property.  [PLATE GC60]


CHAPTER CYRUS 2013 MEMBERSHIP JEWEL (worn as a breast jewel):

All current and past members of Chapter Cyrus 2013 who are prevented from wearing the membership jewel as a neck jewel (by reason, for example, of being required to wear the Mark and Royal Arch Distinguished Service Award collarette jewel) shall be entitled to wear the Chapter Cyrus 2013 jewel from the left breast pendant from a dark blue ribbon edged maroon 38 mm wide.  The jewel is personal property.


MARK AND ROYAL ARCH SERVICE AWARD:

There is no jewel prescribed for this Award.


BARS TO BREAST JEWELS AND LAPEL BADGES
50 YEARS OF MEMBERSHIP:no_image

Companions who have achieved 50 years of membership of the Order may wear on the ribbon of their Royal Arch jewel a gold bar 40 mm x 9 mm with a 1 mm blue internal border and in the centre on a red enamelled circle surrounded by a laurel wreath in gold the figures “50” superimposed and on the bar in blue the words “Member” (left) and “Years” (right).  The bar is personal property.  (The United Supreme Grand Chapter on application by qualified Companions or by Scribes Ezra on their behalves supplies these jewels.)  [PLATE GC61]


GRAND OFFICER’S LAPEL BADGE:no_image

A lapel badge showing the office held by the wearer may be worn on the left lapel by serving Grand Chapter Officers at Festive Boards and on other social occasions.  Lapel badges are not to be worn in the Chapter Room.  Lapel badges shall be and at all times remain the property of the United Supreme Grand Chapter.  [PLATE GC62]


GENERAL

REGALIA FOR ALL COMPANIONS AND BRETHREN PRESENT AT GRAND CHAPTER CONVOCATIONS:no_image

All invested Grand Chapter Officers shall wear Grand Chapter Regalia (the jewel of office worn shall be the jewel of the office each occupies, irrespective of his rank).  All other Companions and Brethren present shall wear appropriate Grand Chapter Regalia, Royal Arch Regalia, Excellent Master Regalia or Mark Master Mason Regalia.
